We are looking for an Architect to become part of an (international) team, working together for a purpose: to develop the Master Plan and related buildings for the Akasha Headquarters site, based on a spiritual foundation. If you are inspired to collaborate with Nepali and European Architects, Engineers and team members from other backgrounds, looking into creative ideas for designing and planning sustainable buildings; drawing inspiration from traditional Nepali and Chinese architecture (Buddhist, Daoist, Newari) and reimagining these with modern elements – this might be for you.

To inspire positive change, Akasha Life establishes sustainable business entities like the Artisan Bakery or Agriculture that offer healthy products or services and simultaneously care for the natural resources. Akasha Life and Akasha Academy are also both collaborating closely with their German partner organization Long Yang e.V.

Role of the position

The role of the Architect will initially focus mainly on design of the Restaurant and Training Center for Sustainable Hospitality as well as the supervision of the construction on site. It may also include larger design and planning activities in the fields of sustainable architecture and land use related to the Master plan of the site. For the position, regular presence at the office in Suntakhan-3, Gokarneshwor will be required.

Contract period

Initially 1 year, with the possibility of extension; long-term engagement envisioned, starting as soon as possible.

The position is envisioned to be part-time (50%).

Tasks and responsibilities:

  • Support the design, planning and construction of a restaurant/training center in Suntakhan, Gokarneshwor
  • Planning, design and construction drawings for a planned restaurant (Training Center for sustainable hospitality) , and possibly other buildings on the site
  • Coordination, communication with contractors
  • Supervision of contractors on site
  • Monitoring and reporting on project developments
  • Being an interface towards local authorities and partner organizations
  • other tasks as per necessity and upon mutual agreement

Required skills and experience:

You should…

  • be passionate about spiritual architecture, sustainable construction and land planning
  • have a deep interest in developing creative, yet practical ideas to combine traditional Nepali and Chinese (Buddhist, Daoist, Newari) architecture with modern building approaches and sustainable materials
  • have successfully completed at least bachelor’s degree in architecture, or a relevant field
  • have at least 3 years working experience, 
  • have proven work experience in at least one of the following areas: sustainable architecture/ land planning, sustainable construction materials and/or building techniques
  • be creative, innovative and courageous,
  • have excellent communication and presentation skills,
  • have the ability to work within a team of different social and cultural backgrounds,
  • have a strong identification and commitment towards the overall work of Akasha Life and Akasha Academy,
  • have the ability to organize yourself (in workflows) 
  • have solid command of Nepali and English languages, both written and verbal

Ideally, you have

  • have practical knowledge and experience in project management
  • interest in tourism, hospitality, health-conscious living and nature connection
  • practical leadership experience
